Student of the Month Feng dedicated to volunteering

Los Alamos High School student Angela Feng was recognized as the newest Rotary Student of the Month during the Rotary Club of Los Alamos’ regular club meeting Tuesday at the Manhattan Project Restaurant.
Feng is dedicated volunteer. She gives her time to the Key Club, the Auxiliary Junior Volunteers at the Los Alamos Medical Center, Teen Court and the Los Alamos Volunteers Association. Plus, she is a member of the Natural Helpers, French Club, Los Alamos Hilltalkers and Science Olympiad.

Volunteering is important to Feng. She explained in her essay for the Rotary Student of the Month, “I love volunteering because it makes me feel like I’m a part of something bigger than myself, bigger than high school, and that’s a feeling I want to share with my peers, especially the ones who have a hard time feeling like they belong.”
Upon receiving the recognition as the newest Student of the Month, Feng said, “(This) means a lot to me.”
In choosing students to receive this honor, Rotary searches for students who exemplify the club’s motto, “Service above Self.”
Teachers are asked to nominate students who:
Have given positive contributions to their school and the community,
Have a good attitude about learning,
Are good citizens and respectful of their teachers and peers,
And have good grades, attendance, and classroom participation.
Plus, nominees to write an essay describing how they use community service to address a significant problem teens may face today. Our Student of the Month committee selected the winners based on their demonstrated service and exemplification of the Rotary Four-Way Test.
